This delightful, relatively easy walk of 7.5 miles traverses pretty countryside and farmland with distant views over Lakeland. For many, this is the last leg of the Dales Way that runs from Ilkley to Bowness on the banks of Lake Windermere. The one-mile uphill walk to the bus stop and railway station is a bit of a sting in the tail, but there are frequent buses leaving Bowness to the station if you didn’t fancy the walk. Around 1150ft of ascent – allow a little under 4 hours.

The hourly 555 Stagecoach service will drop you in Abbey Square Staveley, and is probably the more reliable alternative to the train.
